Laura Linney's performance of weak, yet strong characters has earned her the title of one of the top American actors. Her father was a renowned playwright. However, she was raised as an only child by a single mom and nurse. In the summer and with her father Linney was able to develop a passion for the theatre. Linney eventually pursued acting first in Brown University then at Juilliard School. After just two short months after graduating the actress began her Broadway career. The following year she made her first appearance in the world of film and television. Since then, she has appeared involved in numerous films, television productions and stage shows. Over the course of her career, she won many awards, including her two Golden Globe Awards. She has been nominated for five Tony Awards and three Oscar Awards nominations. But, in spite of her awards and accolades, the theatre is still her passion and she is determined to perform on stage and screen.
